Hi guys,
I’m starting to get the standard beginning of season email about what’s going on for this year. I’ll get to that below.
But first… A bit about what’s been going on with me…
My mom has gone through a bunch of health challenges in the past couple of months.
- Came down with cellulitis in her leg. Hospital, antibiotics.
- Fell and gashed her head just before Christmas. Back to the hospital to get it fixed. Dizziness that led to the fall probably caused by interaction between blood pressure meds and the antibiotics.
- Changed antibiotics. Had an adverse reaction to that one. Changed blood pressure meds.
- Came down with a nasty flu, probably in the hospital. So did my sister, her care-giver.
- While both were in the middle of the flu, mom fell again and broke her hip.
- Back to the hospital, wait a few days to get her hemoglobin and other vitals up to be able to do surgery, convince the hospital to NOT give the adverse reaction antibiotics, etc.
- Start rehab in a rehab facility.
- Fell in rehab facility and broke her femur on the leg with the recently repaired hip.
- Back into the hospital. Need to get blood vitals back up again. Surgery tomorrow, maybe.
I’m going to Florida to visit and help next week.
My son is also in the middle of a bunch of health issues. There’s a similar long story. The short version is that he has a lung problem. Finally got the required reference to a lung specialist. He’s had some tests that have been helpful. Soon should get a mask for sleep apnea. Going back for more tests in mid Feb. We were in WA a couple of weekends ago to visit. I got to meet the lung specialist. Things look hopeful, but some serious rehab is in his future.
My niece (sister’s daughter) just lost her 6 month old daughter to a tragic accident. The baby choked on her vomit in her crib, couldn’t be revived by paramedics, rushed to ER and hooked up. After 3 days, the doctors declared her brain dead. They donated her organs. The funeral was this past Monday.
So… That’s why I haven’t been as active with planning for the coming baseball season as you might have been expecting.
Here’s the quick version of the plans for 2013.
- We are planning for a 65+ division in TV. I’m hoping that all of our age-eligible Antiques will participate. I’m mentally pencilling the Antiques Blue for 65+ and Antiques Red for 55+. Lots of details to work out. We’ll probably have waivers for many guys who are at least 62 and want to play 65+.
- The 55+ division will continue as before. No major changes planned.
- I haven’t figured out how much the fees for this year will be. But I do know that they will go up. We did NOT cover our costs for last year. Anybody who can, please go to the Antiques website and use Paypal to pay $325 now. It will be at least that much this year. I will ask for more if the price is higher and give you a refund if the price goes down. http://antiquesbaseball.com/pay-your-fees/
- That page also has the info if you want to pay by check.
- There’s a Manager’s meeting scheduled for Feb 24. I will know more after that meeting.
- Angelo Crudale is organizing an Antiques team to enter a 60+ team in San Diego on Memorial Day. Contact him at ccruski at sbcglobal dot net if you’re interested. I plan to play if at all possible. That depends on how all the family health stuff plays out.
- Gus is working on a practice field to get some workouts in this spring. Stay tuned.
I have a stack of stuff to publish on the website regarding our results in the Roy Hobbs World Series. I’m hoping to get to that before much longer…
Whew…

I hope your family gets better fast.
Thanks for all you do.

Good luck w/the family issues, Denny.
It all sounds familiar to a lot of us.
We’re all getting older!
Denny:
sorry to hear about all your family medical issues, thanks for making the time to do write-ups on RHWS.
Best wishes,
DD
Denny,
I am very sorry to hear about all of the health issues that you are facing with your family, it’s such a random universe you just never know what could be coming down the road. Hopefully full recoveries are part of the scenarios and is my wish for all of your family. So very sorry about the lost child, the most horrifying thing that can happen to anyone, so devastating.
Hi Denny,
Your a great guy. Sorry to hear about things happening around you. Time takes care of everything.
Keep up your spirit. Congrats on your ring with Bobby’s team.
See you soon, Spec
Denny,
As you probably know I have reached the age of reason, the age of AARP, the age of Medicare, the age of Social Security Retirement and the age when I will be the first one released in a hostage situation. So that means it is now time to get serious about Baseball. I am trying to get myself moved back down to California by mid-March and I am looking forward to playing with The Antiques, of any color. I have joined a gym, hired a trainer and have nothing but high hopes and elevated expectations for myself in the coming year. I am so looking forward to this season with a new found confidence and a youthful attitude, ready to take it to the limit. I hope to see you and all the guys very soon. . . Tony
Like everyone else I wish your family well. I cannot imagine what you have had to deal with. Some of us have been blessed with less issues and we will keep you in our prayers.
I will get you a payment in the next couple of days. Can’t wait for the season to start and I am really looking forward to the new league of 65+.
Denny,
Our prayers are with you for the improvement of all your family’s health issues. I know it is difficult during these times when you are not close, but prevail and things will get better.
David

Hi ya Denny,
Saundra and I are so sorry about all you and your family are going through. We can only imagine how you’re feeling. As difficult as it is, stay loving, strong and optomistic because that’s what the family needs more than ever.
Stay healthy,
Jonathan and Saundra
