Update on Antiques teams for Roy Hobbs World Series

We will have a team in 55+. Bob Wilms is managing. The roster is full to over-full.

We will have a team in 60+. Denny Brown is managing. The roster is rapidly filling. We might be full, or even over-full if all of the “interested” turn in to committed (i.e. paid) players.

We will NOT have a team in 65+. The few guys who were committed to play in 65+ are hooking up with Dick Hill who manages the Boston Braves.

  1. I’ve decided to stay put here in Ukraine this fall. The grass seen is going down on the infield of our ball park tomorrow and because it’s a bluegrass/rye mix will take at least a month of intensive care before it gets established. There are now officially three uniformed youth teams here in Odessa. I am following the field of dreams credo that if I build it, they will come. “It” being the ball field and so far, it seems to be working, even the
the field is now very rudimentary with our backstop consisting of packed and stacked used tires. There are ivy seeds in the ground at the base of the tires so in the fall they should germinate start to grow.

I would like very much to invite anyone who wants to support this effort to contact me either by email or through my facebook page where I post photos of the project and updates. The support I need now, is help with shipping some cartons of equipment that are at the shipping company’s warehouse in New Jersey. The average shipping carton costs about $35…Meest has discounted their rate down to $.79 per pound.Supporters can call Meest or use paypal.

I want to again express my thanks and appreciation to Lanny Ropke who was among the first to help with this project. Again, contact me if you would like to help.

PS..I’ve been doing a lot of physical labor and the other day when I went to tuck in my shirt, I looked down and actually saw my belt buckle!
