We lost the “placement” game to the Volkers. Our bats went cold, and our defense was not as tight as in our first 4 games.
The highlights in this game came from Walt Boggan. After we gave up 3 runs in the bottom of the sixth to make the score 11-1. We had to score at least one in the top of the seventh to avoid the 10-run mercy rule. Walt came up with two outs and runners on 2nd and 3rd and got a base hit to right center to drive in our second run.
Walt pitched the bottom of the seventh. Their first hitter got on base, stole second, and moved to third on an infield out. We had to prevent that runner from scoring, so we played the infield in. Walt got a groundout to second and a groundout to shortstop to strand the runner and keep us playing.
In the 8th, the Volkers again got their leadoff hitter on. Walt got out of that inning without any damage.
So, although we got beat, we had a couple of positive highlights to take into the playoffs on Friday.
