The Braves beat the Antiques Red in the first round of the B division playoffs. They took the first game on Saturday 14-8 by scoring 4 in the 8th and 6 in the ninth. The Braves made it 2-0 by taking the Sunday game 16-5.
The Antiques Blue scored 7 runs in the bottom of the ninth to pull out a 13-12 victory over the Giants in the Saturday opener. Mike Hanks got the game-winning, two-run single with one out in the ninth. Skip Stephens scored the winning run.
It looked for a while like the Giants would force a third game. With game 2 tied at 6 in the bottom of the 8th, the Giants loaded the bases with nobody out. But Phil Montes, who pitched all 9 for the Blue, got a short to home grounder, a strikeout, and another groundout to escape with no damage. In the top of the ninth, the Blue scratched a run when Skip Stephens scored from second on what might have been an inning ending ground ball. The Giants threatened in the bottom of the ninth, but Phil was able to pitch out of trouble again. Final score: 7-6.
So the Antiques Blue and the Braves will meet in the finals of the B division playoffs.
