Two 5-run innings by the Tribe made the difference. In both cases, an error by the Antiques opened the door, and then the Tribe made us pay by stringing together hits.

We struck first. Phil Montes, the Antiques starting pitcher, stole a run. He walked, stole second, moved to third on a groundout, and scored on a sac fly.

After two quick outs in the second, a walk and an Antiques error got things started for the Tribe. Mike Ilg singled, Bob Vierra doubled, Angelo Crudale and Rich Mangini singled. When the smoke cleared, the Tribe was ahead 5-1.

Kurt Simoncini cruised through the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th, aided by two double plays and a caught stealing. Meanwhile, the Tribe added single runs in the 3rd, 4th, and 5th to stretch the lead to 8-1.

We got 2 back in the bottom of the 5th by stringing together 5 singles in a row. Jim Kenney, Zach Jones, Pops Menise, Mike McKeever, and Tom Feasby were responsible for the two-out rally. 8-3 after 6.

The Tribe got the lead back up to 7 with 2 runs in the seventh. The Tribe loaded the bases on a hit and two walks from Montes. Denny Brown relieved Phil, but gave up two hits before escaping more damage with a 1-2-3 double play and a flyout to left.

After the Tribe added another single run in the 8th, the Antiques got back in the game with a 4 run 8th inning. Kenney, Jones, Menise, McKeever, Mike Rezzonico, and Gus Manning all got hits. George Esposito drove in the 4th run in the inning with a sac fly. That cut the Tribe lead to 11-7 after 8.

The Tribe struck right back though. An Antiques error and a Ron Carlock single got the inning going. With two outs, Vierra, Crudale, and Mangini singled. Gerry Dasey capped the inning with a double.

The Antiques got 3 of those runs back in the bottom of the 9th to get the lead back under 7. Bert Rodriguez and Montes walked. Julian Blea, Denny Brown, and Kenney singled. But 3 was all we could manage. Final score: 16-10.
