The Antiques Red and Black Sox both needed a win this week. Neither team could prevail, though, finishing tied after a see-saw battle.

The Black Sox opened the game with 3 runs on singles by Dale Marinello, Tony Jackson, and Elgin Williams. A two out double by Dave Douglas was the big hit.

The Antiques got those back in the bottom. Singles by Mike Hanks, Randy Cobb, and Denny Brown started things. A two out double by Skip Stephens was the big hit.

The first inning set the tone for the rest of the game. Each time one of the teams went ahead, the other one answered right back, often in similar fashion.

The Antiques struck next. In the bottom of the 4th, Stephens, Dan Coyro, and Jon Tain got singles. That along with a Black Sox error put the Antiques up 5-3.

The Black Sox answered with 4 in the 5th. Nick Klumpp’s double drove in two runs. Two Antiques errors, and an RBI single by Marinello pushed across another 2. That put the Black Sox ahead 7-5.

So what happened next? Another 4 run inning, this time by the Antiques. A walk, a hit, and a Black Sox error loaded the bases. Stephens, Coyro, Tain, and Robin South each got RBIs with single, fielder’s choice, walk, and hit-by-pitch, respectively. So that put the Antiques back ahead 9-7.

So what happened next? Dave Douglas stroked a triple with two runners on to tie the game at 9-9.

With time running out, the Black Sox put up a run in the top of the 8th. Rich Cerny walked. Marinello moved him to second with a sac bunt. Tony Jackson’s single and another walk loaded the bases. With Douglas at the plate, a wild pitch gave up the go-ahead run. Douglas then lined out to left to end the threat.

Cobb drew a walk to lead off the bottom of the 8th, and stole second. Brown moved him to 3rd with a right side groundout. Jim Kenney’s single tied the game. But we couldn’t move Kenney along, so the game ended 10-10.
