The Giants’ John Hayes kept the Antiques in check for the first 5 innings. We were able to scratch two runs in the second inning on a walk to Mike Hanks and hits by Dan Coyro, Steve Chase, and Jon Tain.

Meanwhile, the Giants scored 4 in the first on some timely hitting aided by shaky defense by the Antiques. Then they added single runs in the 2nd, 4th, and 5th. So Hayes left the mound with a 7-2 lead.

The Antiques got back in the game with a 3 run 6th. John Riley, Randy Cobb, Denny Brown, and Skip Stephens each singled and Jim Kenney reached on a Giants’ error.

Two hit-by-pitch, an Antiques error, and a booming double by Curtiss Brown got those runs right back in the bottom of the inning.

We scored one and left two runners on base in the 7th, and scored one and left the bases loaded in the 8th. That, along with the Giants two run 7th, kept the Giants in the lead by 5 runs.
