Washington Titans 5 — Antiques 2

We got our 4th complete game, but not our 4th win. Denny Brown pitched well, but we couldn’t generate enough offense to grab the win. Denny gave up 5 runs, on 12 hits, 6 Ks, and no walks.

Highlights: Bill Bonekat 2-3, 2b, and got hit by a pitch.

We scored in the top of the first. Codany Holiday got it started by reaching on an error. Bonekat and Angelo Crudale followed with singles, loading the bases with nobody out. All we could manage was one run on a single by Mike Sasso.

The Titans matched that in the bottom of the first. Their leadoff hitter also reached on an error, stole second, and ended up scoring on an infield out.

We had another opportunity in the top of the third. Holiday singled and Bonekat was hit by a pitch. They advanced to second and third on a wild pitch and stolen base. But we couldn’t cash in.

The Titans had their big inning in the third, scoring 4. A one-out single, stolen base, and another single scored the first run. John Olerud Sr. singled, putting runners on the corners. An error on a potential double play ball scored the second run. The Titans Dave Mathews got the big hit in the inning, a two run double to right center.

We got one back in the sixth. Frank Milian was hit by a pitch, stole second and scored on two infield outs.

We put one runner on base in each of the 7th, 8th, and 9th, but couldn’t bunch enough to catch up.
