Zach’s team ended up 1-3; they are now done playing.

Here’s a quick recap of the tourney for Pacific Northwest (Longview, WA).

  • First game: Lost 13-3 to Maryland who ended up in 2nd place in our division with a 3-1 record.
  • Second game: Won 8-5 over Southwest (Little Rock, AR) who ended up in last place in our division with an 0-4 record.
  • Third game: Lost  12-2 to Pacific Southwest (Hawaii), who ended up in first in our division, also 3-1.
  • Fourth game: Lost 6-5 to New England who ended up 3rd, also 3-1.
We were tied 5-5 going into the bottom of the 6th. Their #3 hitter hit a walk-off home run to beat us. If we had won that fourth game, we would have come in third and played Australia in an exhibition game today. So NE came in 3rd and we were 4th.

Zach made the All Star team for the tournament. They choose 4 guys from each of the non-playoff teams to play in that. So we got to watch Zach play one more game last night at 8pm.

Today (Friday) was the semi-finals for both the US and International brackets.

On the International side

  • Korea beat the Dominican Republic
  • Japan beat Mexico

On the US side

  • Maryland (State Champs) beat Southeast (Jupiter, FL)
  • Mid-Atlantic (Bronx, NY) was ahead of Pacific Southwest (HI) 1-0 when a thunderstorm hit. After an hour or so rain delay, they resumed the game. Hawaii was behind 8-5 in the bottom of the sixth. They got a 2-run HR to get to 8-7, and a solo HR to tie the game. Bronx scored one in the top of the 9th to win it, 9-8.

Saturday’s games

  • 5pm Eastern: Maryland vs. Bronx for US championship
  • 7:30 Eastern: Japan vs. Korea for International championship
The two championship games are on CBS Sports.
We’re having a great time. The facility here is amazing.
