Baseball in China

Dennis McCroskey from REBL is organizing a trip to China in July. Jake and I thought long and hard about doing this trip. We decided that we can’t do it this year. But if you’re interested, contact Dennis. It looks like a great trip!

Here’s a recent email from Dennis.

Nǐ hǎo,

I finally made it back from Cuba and am exhausted.  We had 2 groups over the 3 weeks and both groups had an outstanding time.  We won 5 games and lost 7.  Cuba is a very special place to visit and words, pictures, videos and music just don’t give it justice.  There is no way I can describe what an incredible experience it is.  This was my 13th & 14th weeks of playing baseball in Cuba and each time is a different and an unforgettable experience.  Take a look at the last 10-15 comments towards the bottom of the page at:

You can get a little taste of the trip by viewing these short videos one of the guys put together.

Having survived Cuba again, it’s time to get serious about the trip to China.  When I sent out the invitations just before I left for Cuba there were a number of people who expressed interest in going.  I have been able to get the costs confirmed and I have the dates pretty well established.  Now it’s up to you!  If this trip is going to happen we need at least 12 players to sign up and a maximum of 14.  The sooner you sign up, the sooner we will know if the trip will happen.

Dates
It seems most everyone is OK with the trip being the later part of July with the extended days overlapping into August.  As such I’ve set these as preliminary dates.  These may vary by a day or so one way or the other but as of now this is the tentative schedule.

Main Trip:
Arrive in Beijing on Thursday July 21.  (You will depart USA on the 20th as you will lose a day)
Depart from Shanghai on Friday July 29.

Extended Trip:
Arrive in Beijing on Thursday July 21.  (You will depart USA on the 20th as you will lose a day)
Depart from Beijing on Thursday August 4

What is determining the dates? I’m trying to use my FF miles for a 1st class ticket and they only have so many available on certain days.  The sooner we get enough sign ups the sooner I can confirm the dates.

Sign Ups
Now is the time to sign up.  We need at least 12 players plus assorted wives, friends, kids, tourists etc.  I need a $500 deposit from each participant and each participant needs to fill out an application form.  You can find the application form at:
http://www.baseballadventures.com/china/chinasignup2.html

I’ve set up a web site with more details on the trip which you can view at:
http://www.baseballadventures.com/china/china1.html

Be sure to indicate in you are signing up for the extended trip also.  We need at least 10-12 people for this to happen.
You can see info on the extended trip at:
http://www.baseballadventures.com/china/china1-opt.html

If the trip does not happen all deposits are fully refundable.  If you decide you cannot make the trip after sending in the deposit it is still refundable up until the time I send funds to the agents in China.  At that point you are subject to their terms.

Costs
Visiting China is relatively inexpensive compared to other countries.  This trip is pretty much all inclusive once you get there.

1st Week of Baseball=$1,925 double occupancy, Single room add $475

Optional Extended Tour=$1,495 double occupancy, Single room add $375

If you are are going to sign up, please notify me.  If you decide you are not going please let me know so I can take you off the list.

Thanks and hope to hear from you soon,
