RHWS Results Saturday 11/15 – Game 1

We won our semi-final game against Team Florida with a dramatic comeback. Down 4-2 in the 8th, we scored 2 to tie it. Then we won in the bottom of the ninth with a walk-off single by Panos Lagos. Frank Amoroso tossed a complete game, allowing only 8 hits and one earned run.

Phil Montes again led off the bottom of the first by stealing a run. He singled, stole second, went to third on a wild pitch, and scored on a wild pitch.

Team Florida matched that in the second on an outfield error and a two-out base hit. They jumped ahead 2-1 in the third on a double and an RBI single.

Single runs in the 5th and 6th extended the Team Florida lead to 4-1.

We started our comeback in the bottom of the sixth. Panos led off with a single. Mike Tarens drew a one-out walk. Phil singled to bring us to 4-2.

In the 8th, Zach Jones singled with one out. Mike Tarens had an apparent single, but Julian Blea, running for Zach was forced at second. Phil drew a two-out walk. Angelo singled to left to load the bases. Bob Levine stroked a 2-run single to score Tarens and Phil, and tie the game.

That set the stage for the bottom of the ninth. Cy Rogers walked with one out. Hiro Tarumi ran for him. With Hiro running, Mike Sasso popped one to short left field. If they would have been able to get to the popup, Hiro would probably have been doubled off. But the popup fell safely to put runners at first and second. Panos then stroked a single to right center to drive in Hiro with the winner.
