We started the game with a bang in the first. Phil Montes walked and stole second. With two outs, Robin South singled to drive in Phil. Then Denny Brown got a hit-and-run double to right that scored Robin from first.

Frank Amoroso started the game after having pitched the 9-inning complete game in the semi-final. Mark Adams doubled and Lee Jackson singled to get the Solons on the board in the first.

We scored in the top of the second on Zach Jones’ base hit, another walk to Phil, and Angelo Crudale’s base hit.

The Solons answered again. Jim Lortz reached second on an infield error and scored on Jim Tygrett’s hit.

We pushed our lead up to 5-2 in the third. Robin and Denny singled. Robin scored on Mike Sasso’s hit. Denny scored on Panos Lagos’ hit.

The Solons put together a big inning in the bottom of the 3rd. Two walks and four singles along with some shaky Antiques defense resulted in 5 big runs to put the Solons ahead 7-5.

Denny relieved Frank in the bottom of the 7th. The Solons scratched a run. Denny hit Mark Adams with his first pitch. An infield error and a couple of ground outs scored Adams.

Down 8-5 in the 9th, we managed another Antiques-style comeback. Angelo and Mike Tarens singled to lead off the inning. Robin moved them up with a bunt that he came close to beating out. Denny grounded out to score one run, but things looked bleak with two outs and still down two runs. Then Cy Rogers drilled a double over the left-fielder’s head to drive in one more and put the tying run on second. Hiro Tarumi ran for Cy. Mike Sasso’s single drove in Hiro with the tying run.

With one our in the bottom of the ninth, Mark Adams again got the Solons going with a double to right center. We then issued an intentional walk to Lanny Ropke. Lee Jackson grounded the first pitch up the middle. Angelo dove and smothered the ball to keep it in the infield. But Adams kept running and Angelo’s throw to the plate was not in time and the Solons had a walk-off win.

Adams was a thorn in our side throughout the game. He scored 4 of the Solons’ 9 runs, on two doubles, a walk, and a hit-by-pitch.
