The Giants 5-run fifth inning proved to be the difference in the game.

Jerry Emanuelson and Julian Blea started and were 3-2 after 4 innings. The Giants scored 2 in the top of the first and the Antiques answered with two in the bottom. The Antiques got two odd double plays in the second and third to help Julian get out of trouble.

Four Giants hits and two key Antiques errors led to the 5 run fifth that put the Giants ahead 7-3. The Antiques answered with 2 in their half. Bert Rodriguez and Phil Montes singled, and both scored on Denny Brown’s hit.

The Giants got those runs right back. Three walks and Bob DeStefano’s hit put the game at 9-5 after 6.

After the Giants extended the lead by scoring 3 in the 7th, the Antiques responded with 4 in the bottom. Ben Cabanas came in to shut down the Antiques rally, and then threw 2 clean innings to stymie the attempt at a comeback.

Joe Silva got a complete game win in game 2.

John Riley led off with a hit, stole second, moved to third on a fly to right and scored on Robin South’s ground out. Julian Lopez kept the Giants quiet until the third. He hit two guys to lead off the third. Curtis Brown, Cedric Collins, and Joe Silva each got hits to make the free bases hurt.

The Antiques responded with 3 of their own in the 4th. Singles by Lopez, Dan Coyro, and Riley, wrapped around a double by Ted Hinckley did the damage. So it was 4-4 after 4.

In the bottom of the 5th, Lopez hit his 4th batter, which disqualified him from pitching. Collins got another hit, and a walk loaded the bases. Silva then got the big hit of the game with a long single that cleared the bases, and put the Giants ahead for good.

Ted Hinckley stole a run in the 6th. But the Giants put up 4 more in the bottom to open the lead to 12-5. Nelson Solberg’s double was the big hit.

Singles by Riley, who went 5 for  5, Randy Cobb, and Robin South combined for the final run.
